Q2、What are tacit and explicit knowledge?
The displays of knowledge can be divided into “explicit knowledge” and “tacit knowledge.” Here are the characteristics and differences
1. Explicit knowledge
Knowledge that can be seen or heard is called “explicit knowledge.” It is mostly preserved by words, images, or sounds. For example, Beethoven turned the 9th Symphony into sheet music. If music performers can play it, it is easily passed down from generation to generation. The sheet music is considered “explicit knowledge.” In addition, enterprises write standard operating procedures according to all the manufacturing procedures or services, or use documentaries or tapes to completely preserve the related courses or messages. This is the typical explicit knowledge
2. Tacit knowledge
Not easily preserved by words or audio. Tacit knowledge is when you can only use scenario simulation to feel or experience the knowledge. Even though there are many orchestras and bands that play Beethoven’s 9th Symphony, everyone’s feelings are different when they hear the music. For example, the styles of recording Furtwangler and Karajan are very different. Other than different conductors and orchestras, even when they are the same, the style is different in different era. The emotions, experience, and interpretation of performance are different. These differences are hard to described by words. The key element causing these differences is considered “tacit knowledge.”
